Chinese smartphone maker OPPO is planning to launch a new AI assistant built on its own large language model, AndesGPT. The company has already applied to trademark the names “AndesGPT” and “AndesAI” for use in connection with scientific instruments, communication services, and website services.
AndesGPT is a generative pre-trained transformer model developed by OPPO’s Andes Intelligent Cloud team. The team began exploring and implementing pre-trained language models two years ago, and has since developed a number of large models, including OBERT, which once ranked fifth in the overall list of the Chinese language understanding evaluation benchmark CLUE1.1 and first in the large-scale knowledge graph question-answering ranking KgCLUE1.0.
OPPO says that AndesGPT is based on the OBERT model training experience and integrates key technologies such as continuous learning of Chinese dialogue data, fine-tuning of instructions, human feedback reinforcement learning, and knowledge enhancement. In June this year, it ranked first on the C-Eval evaluation list.
The application of the AndesGPT and AndesAI trademarks suggests that OPPO is planning to make a big push into the AI assistant market. The company has already been making other moves to strengthen its AI capabilities, such as its partnership with Alibaba Cloud to jointly develop AI technologies.
It will be interesting to see how OPPO’s new AI assistant performs in the market. If it can offer a compelling user experience, it could be a major player in the AI assistant space.
In addition to the new AI assistant, OPPO is also working on other AI-powered features for its smartphones. The company recently announced that it has shut down its chip business, but it says that it will continue to develop AI technologies for its products.
OPPO is not the only smartphone maker that is investing in AI. Other companies, such as Xiaomi and Huawei, are also developing their own AI assistants and other AI-powered features. The AI assistant market is still in its early stages, but it is growing rapidly. It will be interesting to see how the market evolves in the coming years.
